Former Mines Minister Walter Chidhakwa has applied to rejoin ZANU PF after years in political exile following his expulsion from the party in 2017.

Chidhakwa, formerly the Zvimba South Member of Parliament and a member of the party’s Central Committee, was a prominent figure who fell from power alongside former President Robert Mugabe.

At a ZANU PF Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) meeting held on Saturday at the Public Service Training Centre in Chinhoyi, the party’s Mashonaland West Chairperson, Mary Mliswa-Chikoka, read Chidhakwa’s letter, which was met with unanimous support from the delegates.

ZANU PF Sanyati District Chairman Langton Mabhanga said the party is a people’s movement, welcoming those who have previously strayed. Said Mabhanga:

“We need to welcome the Comrade back into the party. Our party led by His Excellency is considering re-admissions of those who would have strayed back into the party.”

Mliswa said that since the PCC has recommended Chidhakwa’s readmission, her office will now send a formal request to ZANU PF Headquarters for approval.
